Issue 02: That's Money, Honey

Money equals freedom.

So why is it so damn difficult to talk about it?

Money + finances are huge topics to cover, and ones that I'm still working through myself. For example, I only recently started talking to my partner of four years about our budget. And despite my nerd-tastic love of Excel spreadsheets I will do just about anything to avoid sitting down and crunching numbers.

My feelings about budgets + numbers certainly aren't helped by the fact that I'm starting a business which is currently making negative dollars. No one wants to see that! But I'm learning that it's so, SO important to get a system in place before you need it. And also realizing that if my personal finance habits are a mess, then my business finances won't be any better.

Thanks to some great local resources and the powers of the interwebs, I'm making progress, and getting more comfortable with money convos. If you're looking for solid advice from some fantastic DC women, I recommend checking out Wealth Over Now for personal finance and Little Fish Accounting for small biz finance.

Enjoy the issue, and let me know what your favorite accounting + finance resources are so we can share them in the future!

Summer in Turkey

You deserve a break after all that money talk, and we have the perfect treat... a visit to Turkey!

We loved the recent newsletter from Mom & I by EK founder + jewelry maker Ezgi Kaya, who's currently visiting family and checking up on business in her homeland. Ezgi shares behind the scenes of the people, places, and things that inspire her creations. We really enjoyed learning more about one of our fave DC makers!

Take a trip and get inspired.
