DIY Shrub Workshop with Elle VanDyne
Instagram was being screwy last night, so I'm reposting our #thirstythursday feature today... Enjoy! And happy Friday! 🍹
It's #thirstythursday again, and I promised you a tasty non-alcoholic option this time. So, welcome to my summer beverage obsession: shrubs. Are you familiar with these delish drinks?
I had my first shrub mocktail last year at @diowinebar and fell in love. The sweet-tart-fruity flavors are so good, I didn't even miss the alcohol! But if you really want a cocktail kick, shrubs pair perfectly with just about any basic liquor as well.
The word "shrub" comes from the Arabic word 'sharab' meaning 'to drink', and versions of this beverage have been around for hundreds of years. It's made a recent comeback, and I predict it'll continue gaining popularity as more people seek out ways to cut alcohol.
Annnnnd... it's super-easy to make your own. I'll even be teaching a shrub workshop at @femmefataledcon July 15! Come join me to learn more about how to preserve the tastes of summer fruits + veggies all year long with shrubs. We'll be sampling them before class, and you'll go home with a bottle of your own! What fruit flavor would you like to see as a shrub? Some of my ideas to try this summer are blueberry-beet, strawberry-basil, and cherry-mint.
