Lil Bits Cloth Creator Eliza Wapner
Even with an increase in interest about sustainable products, one area still has a long way to go: the apparel industry. It's thought to be the second most polluting industry after oil + gas! So when we come across a brand like Lil Bits Cloth creating gorgeous alternatives to fast fashion, we get super-excited!
Today's featured founder, Eliza of @lilbitscloth, sees the fashion industry now where organic food was 20 years ago - we're just realizing the impact of where our clothes are coming from. So she became inspired to make her clothes in a way that reminds people of the process + every hand that touches it.
Using all natural, plant-based dyes + fabrics like hemp, Eliza creates every piece of her collection made-to-order, by hand in her DC studio. (swipe to see her gorgeous pieces!) It can take about a week to complete a piece: cutting, dyeing, hand-washing, and then sewing the patterns together. It's labor-intensive but the end result is a unique, well-made custom garment that will last + be cherished.
When she's not hard at work in the studio, Eliza loves to share her knowledge of natural dyeing + sustainable fashion with others. She's teaching some upcoming workshops where you can learn more about plant dyes and try your hand at it!
