Upcycled Fashion by MzEclectic Ebony Brown

MzEclectic is a boutique collection of world-inspired, upcycled + handmade fashion, art, and lifestyle pieces created by founder Ebony. She learned how to sew from her aunt + grandmother, who often made their own clothing, and got her first sewing machine as a young teen. She never got into following patterns, instead she creates what she sees in her head and feels in her heart.

Four years ago, Ebony discovered renewed passion for designing + sewing, following the passing of her grandmother and making her own wedding gown. She decided to combine her love for thrifting + designing, and began to upcycle her own clothing. It was meeting Adriana from Femme Fatale last year that pushed her to share her craft with the world.

At the time, @mzeclectic hadn't gone public. Ebony says she was still trying to figure things out: "I’ll admit- the abrupt push to talk to anyone about what I was working on... threw me for a loop. I told Adriana I didn’t feel confident enough to speak about it and frankly wasn’t sure if people would feel like what I was doing was good enough." What Adriana said stuck with her - you have to own what you have to offer to the world. It's okay to be in development. It's all part of the journey. Since then, Mz Eclectic officially started sharing + selling her amazingly detailed upcycled pieces.

Roughly 80% of her materials are upcycled, and Ebony loves the process of thrifting, seeing the potential, and imagining how to repurpose them. By mixing fabrics, colors, patterns + techniques, she pushes the envelope to create bold, one-of-a-kind pieces. She also produces multi-disciplinary art, placing her energy, ideas, and influences on canvas and fabrics. Her paintings often include items leftover from her fashion pieces. Or sometimes they become wearable art or lifestyle items like handmade rugs and home decor.

When you visit @femmefataledc, you'll see exclusive masterpieces combining traces of Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. She feels that each piece tells a story of journeys past, while the new creation embraces chapters waiting to be written.
