Abstract Artist Melanie Bikowski
As an abstract artist, Melanie Bikowski personifies elements of nature + connects them to observations on our relationships with technology. As a writer, Mel's work includes books + the recently released "WILD, a collection of Poems" - discussing the process of womanhood through heartbreak, healing, & discovering femininity.
Mel's work draws strongly on her belief that everything is alive. Currently, she's building a body of work based on personifying clouds. By telling stories of sunsets/sunrises on specific days from her life, she's exploring wonderment about how the clouds feel in a world of information stuffed into "cloud" technology while most people sit all day in sensory-deprived environments.
Just four years ago, she wasn't writing or painting much... sitting under a tree during evening meditation, Mel had a vision of another version of herself. That version told her to quit bullshitting around and start doing the work. So she did. Spending many hours meditating + working through her healing process, she focused on writing poetry first.
It wasn't until after she became pregnant that she began painting professionally. She started having wild, vivid dreams of painting + creating with her daughter. So she took it as another sign, filling her house with over 500 paintings in the first year of opening her business! Through a fortuitous encounter with fellow artist @jessica.kallista, Mel started her ongoing artist residency at Olly Olly.
Mel says, "It's a process, but the more I create, the more energy I have for everything else in this life." At her March 25 @femmefataledc workshop, you'll learn how to simplify painting with intention, select colors + create your own abstract art piece. Sign up via @mel.bikowski or https://bit.ly/2O2MMBp
